Enyimba, Plateau Utd Begin Quest To Break 17-year CAF Champions League Jinx

Enyimba coach, Fatai Osho says his team hopes to make a big statement in the CAF Champions League as they play Burkina Faso side Rahimo FC in the Preliminary Round in Ouagadougou on Sunday.

The Aba-based side and Plateau United will hope to be the first Nigerian side to win the Champions League since Enyimba won it back-to-back in 2003 and 2004.

While Enyimba will travel away for the first leg, Plateau host Tanzanian side Simba SC in the first leg.

Speaking with journalist about the preparedness of his team, Osho said they will try their best to make their fans happy during the game.

“Asides our pre-season tournament, we have also played close to 13 friendlies with different kind of players looking for the right combination for the team.

“When we win, our fans don’t take winning bonuses, we are the ones that take winning bonuses, what they take home is the happiness and the joy seeing that their team wins. And that is what we are going to give to them to make the whole of Nigeria happy. For a long time, no Nigerian team has made a big statement in the Champions League and that is what we are looking at, we want to make a statement that will make everybody proud,” Osho told reporters.

Enyimba will leave Lagos for Burkina Faso on Friday (today) for Sunday’s encounter, while Simba arrived Abuja Thursday for their game against Plateau. They  will host the second leg at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba, while Plateau will travel to Tanzania. Both games will be played on the weekend of December 4 to 6.
