The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has finally mediated in the crisis rocking the affairs of the Anambra State Football Association with specific attention to the vacant chairmanship position.

Acting on a petition written by Anambra FA chairmanship aspirant, Chikelue Iloenyosi, over the brigandage that has been carried out by the association’s Secretary, Chijioke Onyedika, the NFF in a letter dated December 4, 2020, and released from the office of the NFF General Secretary and signed by the Principal Legal Officer and Assistant Secretary, NFF Electoral Committee, Onoja Joshua, accused Onyedika of breaching the federation’s statutes of 2010 by single-handedly convening an Extra-ordinary General Board meeting on November 30, 2020, which failed to form a quorum.

The letter (paragraph 8) reads: “By extension, the Secretary of the FA can not exercise the powers of the Chairman to convene an Extra-Ordinary General Assembly, since the board is yet to be duly constituted”. “The decision arrived at the Extra-Ordinary General Assembly held on 30th November, 2020, are null and void”.

The letter in paragraph 9, also addressed specifically the decision of the Electoral Appeals Committee to call for a bye-election into the position of chairmanship.

“Clause L, Guidelines for Elections into the board of Anambra State Football Association provides that, “The Appeals Committee to this election is the State Electoral Committee set up in accordance with the NFF Statutes.

The judgement of the Committee is final. This is a re-enforce of the provision of NFF Electoral Code, 2009, to the effect that the decision of the Electoral Appeals Committee is final”.

“The Congress of Anambra State Football Association can not up-turn any decision reached by the Electoral Appeals Committee duly constituted”.

The Anambra state Appeals Committee had in November announced its decision to mandate the Anambra FA to conduct a bye election into the vacant position of chairmanship and fixed December……for the exercise to take place.

Meanwhile, in total disregard for the directives, the FA Secretary called a congress disassociating itself from the decision of the Appeals committee.

However, the Nigeria in its resolution has asked the FA to abide by the decision of the Appeals Committee to hold a bye-election to ensure the issues that arose from the controversial election of October 30, 2020, is finally put to rest.

“Conclusively, efforts should be channeled by the Anambra State FA in conducting a bye-election to fill the remaining seat on the board so that the Executive Board can be duly constituted as ordered by the election Appeals Committee of Anambra State, putting into cognizance the period ordered by the Committee for the bye-elections”, stated the letter.
