Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari on Monday told President Muhammadu Buhari that his administration had begun talks with kidnappers of students from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara.

Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said in a statement that the briefing took place in Buhari’s Daura country home.

“We are making progress and the outlook is positive,’’ Masari told newsmen after an hour meeting with the president.

The governor was accompanied by his deputy Manir Yakubu.

“The kidnappers had made contact and discussions were already on pertaining to safety and return to their homes,” Masari was quoted as saying in the statement.

He also noted that security operatives had located the position of the children.

Masari said Buhari was fully committed to the rescue of the students, adding that it was only appropriate to visit the president and give him details of rescue efforts.
