Ndidi, Oshoala, Osimhen Shine At Nigeria Pitch Awards

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi defeated Manchester United’s Odion Ighalo and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen to emerge the King of The Pitch, while Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala won the Queen of The Pitch award ahead of Falcons teammates Onome Ebi and Chiamaka Nnadozie at the seventh edition of the Nigeria Pitch Awards held at the Ibis Hotel Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday.

Osimhen was named Striker of The Year ahead of Ighalo and Samuel Chukwueze, with Ndidi also winning the Midfielder of the Year award, beating Oghenekaro Etebo and Joe Aribo.

Kaizer Chiefs’ Daniel Akpeyi pipped Francis Uzoho and Nnadozie to the Goalkeeper of the Year award, while Eagles assistant captain, William Troost-Ekong won the Defender of the Year award ahead of Kenneth Omeruo and Chidozie Awaziem.

Other award winners are Top Radio’s Wale Adigun (Football Journalist of the Year, radio), Channels TV’s Austin Okon-Akpan (Football Journalist of the Year, TV) and Goal.com’s Samuel Ahmadu (Football Journalist of the Year, online).

Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa beat his Rivers and Akwa Ibom counterparts to win the Football Friendly Governor of The Year award, while Nigeria Football Federation First Vice President, Seyi Akinwunmi, won the Sam Okwaraji award.

Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, was given the Sportsmanship Award.

According to the organisers, “The Sportsmanship Award is awarded to honour any Nigerian who in the course of the discharge of his/her duties in the public sphere exhibits the spirit of sportsmanship as displayed by sports persons in order to ensure peaceful relationship and co-existence.
