What and when is Half-Christmas, the Workaholics Holiday | Time

Christmas” (December 25th) is a yearly holiday celebrated by many and millions commemorate the birth of Jesus on this day. As for the actual day of Jesus’ birth, the New Testament provides no clues in this regard. The New Testament simply states that it happened in the days of Caesar Augustus and while Quirinius was governing Syria (44 BC-AD 14) – Luke 2:1-2.

Sextus Julius Africanus popularised the idea that Jesus was born on December 25 in his Chronographiai, a reference book written in 221 AD. – Wikipedia, “Christmas.” What matters most is that Jesus Christ entered the history of the world. Christianity, therefore, has an historical basis.

The significance of Christmas is that a Saviour is born to save the world from sin and as a result God established His Kingdom on earth. The fall of man in the book of Genesis is the foundation of Christmas. The fall of man into sin at the Garden of Eden necessitated the need for a Saviour to be born to deliver the world from sin. The bad news of Adam’s sin was punishable by death (Genesis 2:17).

Romans 6:23 confirms that the wages of sin is death. Adam and Eve sinned, so someone had to die to cover that sin. This is why Jesus was born and why Jesus had to die. This is why Jesus is called “the last Adam” (1 Corinthians 15:45)—He in effect became a “new Adam,” a “perfect Adam,” so He could die for the descendants of Adam and offer them a free gift of salvation.

History of Christmas - HISTORY

The Bible says the greatest act of love is when one lays down his life for his friends (John 15:13). The birth of Jesus Christ brought about the Good News and that is why the Gospel is simply referred to as the GOOD NEWS.

Decorations and symbols are everywhere this Christmas season but that is not the reason for the season. Jesus Christ is the reason for the season. That is why we say “Merry Christmas.” At Christmas time we find ourselves getting all wrapped up with the business of the holiday rather than the true meaning of what Christmas is all about.

Christmas is God’s gift to mankind. God gave His only begotten son, Jesus Christ to die for mankind (John 3:16) so that through His death man shall be saved from sin and its eternal consequence, which is Hell Fire. This is the real meaning of Christmas.

God has a Christmas gift for you—wrapped not in bright paper and with fancy ribbon—but in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger (Luke 2:7). It is the gift of his Son. It is for you. The gift is still there. It must be personally received.

You can never truly enjoy Christmas until you can look into God’s Face and tell Him you have received His Christmas gift. Have you done that? Have you reflected on Jesus’ birth? You should ask yourself: “He came to be my Lord and Saviour, to save me from sins and reign as King in my heart; have I fulfilled the significance of His birth by responding to the significance of His death and resurrection? (Acts 2:36-38).
