While Barr. Ikenna described the death of Dr. Martins as carelessness on the part of the medical staff in NAUTH, Hon. Amobi popularly known as Anunuebe Nnewi blamed the death of the Unizik lecturer on Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Dr Joe Ugboaja, who left his duty post as the head of clinical services of the NAUTH, to concentrate in his political quest to become the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital.

According to Mr. Amobi Okonkwo, Dr. Ugboaja who is preoccupied with his quest to emerge as the next CMD of NAUTH should be investigated and sanctioned.

However, reacting to the different publications, Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Dr. Joe Ugboaja who expressed shock at both publications, said that the hospital management ensured that the patient, Dr. Martins, was given the best services.

Speaking to our correspondent, Dr. Ugboaja revealed that although an investigation panel has been constituted to unravel what led to the death of the patient, the late Unizik lecturer during his stay in the hospital was managed by the best professionals.

He noted that the transfer of Dr. Martins to Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (formerly Otibhor Okhae Teaching Hospital), Edo State, was based on the request of the Dr. Martins family and not the hospital’s decision.

“Dr. Martins was admitted into our hospital on Friday 8th January 2021. Before his admission, he was being treated in a private hospital for about one (1) week. He was in a bad condition when he was admitted, as he was already on Oxygen and his lungs were weak”
