Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has praised his side’s display despite a 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.

The result preserved the Reds’ unbeaten home league run which now stands at 68 games.

Klopp’s men failed to test David de Gea in goal for United and for the first time since March 2005, the Anfield side have failed to score in three consecutive league matches.

“We have a point more than before the game. The performance was good enough to win but to win a game you have to score goals and we didn’t do that, that’s why we had that result,” Klopp told reporters after the game

Pressed for an explanation on his goal-shy Liverpool attack, Klopp added: “There is nothing fundamentally different, just the result is different. We try and score and we try not to not score.”

On his part, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, hailed Liverpool’s stand-in centre-back partnership, after they kept his attack at bay in Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Anfield.

The two Premier League title rivals clashed, with United attempting to go six points clear of the champions.

Jurgen Klopp was forced to field midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in central defence, with his three senior centre-backs all sidelined.

United’s counter-attack struggled to click for much of the match, with Liverpool’s makeshift back-line defending well, though they did carve out the two best chances of the match only to be denied by Becker Alisson.

“Fair play to them – with two central midfielders at the back and to defend as well as they did shows their quality,” Solskjaer told BBC.

The Red Devils travel to Fulham next in the Premier League.

Solskjaer revealed why he substituted midfielder, Bruno Fernandes during his sides 0-0 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.

Manchester United held Jurgen Klopp’s Reds to a barren draw on Sunday, but still remain top of the table.

Solskjaer replaced Fernandes with Mason Greenwood in the 89th minute and the Portuguese midfielder was obviously angry with the decision.

Speaking on his decision to substitute Fernandes, Solskjaer said, “It was a tactical decision. Bruno has been running his socks off for us in every single game since he came here.

“Running, more or less, every game. Towards the end, I felt Paul’s physical presence in there might be a chance for us.

“Mason [Greenwood], you know if he gets a chance he can score in the blink of a second. But it was a throw of the dice to get Mason on, even though he had to defend against Robertson.”

On United’s position as table topper, Solskjaer added, “It doesn’t really matter where we are now, it matters where we are in May.

“We move on, carry on. We feel that we’ve developed and that is a good feeling with being disappointed to only get one point away.
