With the 2023 Elections barely two years away, some politicians have started putting the final touches to their Senatorial campaign machines in Orlu, as it seems clearer that the position may be vacant and open for all to scramble for.
Former Governor of Imo State, and Senator representing Orlu Zone, Senator Rochas Okorocha, had already started declaring his interest in contesting for the presidency of the nation.
Whether he would be contesting under the APC remains unclear, but following utterances by the Ogboko born political dribbler, there are chances that Okorocha may either be forming a new party from which to contest from, or may run from the PDP.

With his running battle with Senator Hope Uzodinma, over dominance and control of the APC in the state, the chances of Okorocha contesting for any elective position on the APC platform grows slimmer by the day.
There are however indications, that in whatever political formation or arrangement Okorocha gets into, there are high chances, that like he did in 2015 where he got the Imo Govenroship ticket by proxy, Okorocha may yet again keep the Orlu Senate ticket of any party he runs with for himself, as a fallback plan should his presidential aspiration end at the primaries level, like had happened in the past.
Thus, despite his presidential ambition, we may still see Okorocha slugging it out against some other Senatorial hopefuls, but it is very unlikely he would be flying the APC flag to battle.
The APC may likely get Senator Osita Izunaso as their flag bearer, owing to his political and personal relationship to Senator Hope Uzodinma, as well as his political reach in the zone.
2019: Ararume, Izunaso defect to APGA
Izunaso had been to the Senate in the past, from 2007 to 2011 when he was displaced by Senator Hope Uzodinma, who got the backing of then governor, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim.
Izunaso played critical roles in displacing Okorocha’s plot to install Uche Nwosu, and was pivotal to Hope Uzodinma’s emergence as the APC candidate in the election, through the Gulak escapades.
Izunaso also showed strength in the last election, coming from APGA.
His return to the APC didn’t come as a surprise, and there is every likelihood, that Uzodinma may pay him back with the APC ticket in 2023.
In the PDP, the party ticket may be keenly contested, if Okorocha does not come to the party.
But if he does, there may likely be a deal to get the ticket for him through proxy, as a means to keep him in the party.

Okorocha despite his failings, still enjoys a good level of followership, and is believed to be very deep pocketed and able to find elections. He would be a powerful addition to the PDP and sacrifices, such as the Orlu Senate ticket may not be off the table.
APGA may then field some powerful displaced members of the APC or PDP, as has been their trend. This may also be the case of other smaller parties, who may been taken over by politicians who couldn’t find their footing in the APC and PDP.
