Owhefere was said to have been on oxygen for a week before his death, fueling speculations that he died of COVID-19.

This suspicion is reportedly causing anxiety among members of the Delta House of Assembly as some colleagues were reported to have visited him at a hospital (name withheld) in Asaba where he was first admitted.

The Nation had reported Delta Speaker, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, recently recovered from COVID-19.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had also contracted and recovered from the virus in the peak of the pandemic last year.

If speculations that Owhefere contracted the disease turn out to be true, then he will become the first major politician in Delta to have died of coronavirus.
