Nigeria To Host U18 Women’s AFCON Next Month

Nigeria have been given the permission to hood the U18 Women’s African Cup of Nations in March, 2021, Anaedoonline.ng reports.

The Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) and the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) on Monday granted Nigeria Volleyball Federation’s (NVBF) request to host the tournament from March 1st to 9th.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman, Media and Publicity of the Federation, Kehinde Lamidi made available to BSN Sports which reads in parts, “The world volleyball governing body, FIVB and the continental confederation, CAVB have yielded to the request of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation on the new date to host U-18 female Nations cup in Abuja,Nigeria

“The federation stated that FIVB and CAVB have approved 1st and 9th of March, 2021 for the hosting of the U-18 female Nations cup by Nigeria.

The information added that six countries namely : Cameroun, Central Africa Republic, Congo RDC, Egypt, Tunisia and the host Nigeria have confirmed their participation in the championship.

The arrival of the participating countries is March 1, technical meeting is scheduled for the 2nd of March, while the competition days are between 3rd and 8th of March. All the visiting teams are expected to depart for their countries on 9th.

The tournament will be used to qualify Africa’s representative to the 2021 FIVB World championship and is open to players who are under the 18 year old.

Reacting, the president of the Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod who was visibly happy with the development appreciated FIVB and CAVB for the gesture lauding the representative of the international body on the board and current executive member of the world and continental bodies, Habu Gumel for his efforts in making it a reality.

Meanwhile, Engineer Musa Nimrod however, enjoined the technical Chairman of the federation to downsize number of players in kaduna camp to a required number.

It will be remembered that about 32 junior female players were invited to camp in Kaduna on the 29th of january, 2021.
