Delta Police Launch Hunt For Fleeing Bullion Van Attackers

CRACK detectives attached to the Tactical Squad and other units of the Delta State Police command have begun a manhunt for armed hoodlums who ambushed and attacked a bullion van conveying an unspecified amount of money Tuesday, leaving two officers critically wounded.

About three of the armed men were reportedly gunned down while others escaped with severe bullet wounds. Sources said in the ensued crossfire, the bandits were able to take away their dead colleagues and shot their way to escape.

An unspecified amount of money belonging to one of the first generation banks was also said to have been carted away during the attack.

A release signed by the Ag public relations officer of the Command, DSP Edafe Bright and made available to newsmwn said the ambush took place at about 2.20 pm at Utulu/Ubulu-Okiti along Benin-Asaba expressway adding that the injured Policemen were rushed to the Federal Medical Center Asaba for prompt attention.

According to the statement, “On 23/02/2021 at about 1420hrs, Policemen on one of first generation banks on Special Escort from Agbor to Asaba were ambushed by heavily armed bandits at Utulu / Ubulu-Okiti along Benin – Asaba expressway.

In the ensued gun duel, three (3) Policemen were injured and were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Asaba, but AP/No. 199518 Inspector Ogar Sunday was certified dead by the Doctor on duty while the remaining two were treated and discharged. Two of the bandits were fatally injured but were taken away by their gang members.

Unspecified amount of money was reportedly carted away. However, the incident is under investigation to unravel those behind the dastardly act and to ascertain the amount that was carted away. Further development will be communicated.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Delta State Command, CP Muhammed Ari Ali Psc+ has assured that the hoodlums will soon be brought to book assuring that a manhunt for the bandits is ongoing to bring them to justice.
