Lagos Govt Receives Doses Of COVID-19 Vaccines

The Lagos State Government said it has received doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the Federal Government.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed this on Tuesday in Ikeja while speaking at the 2021 International Women’s Day celebration organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Mr Sanwo-Olu said the state government received the vaccines at 4 am on Tuesday.

He assured residents that the state government would soon commence the vaccination in line with the scheduled guidelines laid down by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

The governor implored residents to continue to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols like wearing of face mask, washing of hands and observing social distance.

The Federal Government on March 2 took delivery of four million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.

President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday received jabs of the COVID-19 vaccines at the State House, Abuja.

However, the Nigerian Government says the private sector is not allowed to import COVID-19 vaccines, adding that all COVID-19 vaccines must come through the government.

Minister of State for Health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, stated this on Tuesday while featuring on Live interview.

Nigeria rolled out its vaccination programme against the lethal coronavirus infection on Friday with about four million doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine was earlier approved for use in the country by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were vaccinated against the virus on Saturday on Live TV to demonstrate the safety of the vaccine.

Nigerians who wish to receive the vaccines are enjoined to register on the website of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.

Speaking on Tuesday, the minister said private sector participation of the vaccine distribution was not allowed at the moment and the government won’t be responsible for any outcome of such “backdoor channel”.
