Amaechi spoke at the presentation and launch of Igbo DataBase – Igbodum by a leading Igbo pressure and intellectual group, Nzuko Ummuna, led by Professor Pat Utomi and Mr. Ngozi Odumuko, yesterday.

According to Amaechi, Southeast leaders should downplay too much talk and do the needful. He said: ”During our time, we will do what should be done. Today, there is so much talk. We have wealthy people abroad. Let them come back and develop Igboland.

“There is nothing Igbo cannot do for themselves. Look at Israel, with technological, and educational power, it is a force to reckon with in the world now.

The Igbo as a Blessing to Nigeria

“Let Igbos not focus on pursuit of political power but look for other powers – technological, economic, educational, etc and develop Igbo land, and create employment for our people.”

However, in a related story, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to let the Igbo go if they are no longer wanted in the country.

Amaechi, however, said he believes in one Nigeria and would like it to remain but not under current condition.

He decried the poor state of the country, saying that Nigeria has to start all over again.

The former minister and foremost nationalist spoke at a zoom meeting organized by Dele Momodu of the Ovation Magazine and Mazi Ezeoke, on Thursday.

He said that Nigeria has derailed from the original plan of the founding fathers, insisting that there is need for a new constitution where every Nigerian will be involved to speak what they want.

According to Amaechi, “I am sad. This is no longer the country we founded. This country has to start all over again.

“You can’t beat someone and ask him not to cry. If you don’t like us, let us go. I don’t want to go, I believe in one Nigeria.”
