It would cost Tottenham Hotspur £25 million to sack Jose Mourinho, as they would have to pay up the remaining two years of his contract, the UK Mirror reports.

Levy informs Jose Mourinho of the only way he can avoid Tottenham sack

Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, is expected to give Mourinho a stay of execution to see if he can deliver their first trophy since 2008 in next month’s Carabao Cup final and a top-four finish.

But with fans openly revolting against the Portuguese’s defensive tactics after their shock Europa League exit at Dinamo Zagreb, he has almost run out of time.

Mourinho who earns in excess of £12m-a-year, gave his players the silent treatment after the stunning defeat in Croatia.

A title challenge looked a possibility before Christmas but Spurs’ torrid run has seen them slump to ninth place, with even European qualification far from guaranteed.

They, however, have a chance at winning silverware, as they face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on April 25.

Mourinho in one of his interview said Frank Lampard’s sacking at Chelsea demonstrates the brutality of modern football management.

Club legend Lampard was relieved of his duties just 18 months into the job on Monday, after a run of one win in five Premier League games left the Blues 11 points behind leaders Manchester United.

Lampard won three Premier League titles with Chelsea as a player under Mourinho, who expressed his sadness at the news before admitting it is a reality that managers are always dreading.

“I am always sad when a colleague loses his job. Frank is not just a colleague, he is an important person in my career, so I feel sorry he did (get sacked).

“But it is the brutality of football, especially modern football, so when you become a manager you know that sooner or later it is going to happen to you.” Mourinho said.
