Members of the Anambra State House of Assembly have thrown their whole support behind the ambition of Nonso Smart Okafor to be governor. Yesterday, March 27, 2021, in the presence of the executives of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and his supporters at the Anaedo hall in Nnewi, Nonso Okafor declared his intention to contest in the primary election to become the party flag bearer at the gubernatorial election in November.
The lawmakers in their separate speech, more or less, assured Nonso Okafor of their support.
APGA faithful who came out in their large numbers were full of smiles. Our correspondent, Ifeanyi Okonkwo who witnessed the declaration, reports that current members of the youth wing of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo and other support groups were present to lend their support to the candidature of Hon. Nonso Okafor.
The Chief Whip of Anambra House of Assembly and member representing Dunukufia Constituency, Hon Lawrence Ezeudu while addressing APGA faithful and Okafor’s supporters described Nonso Okafor as a man who puts his constituency first in all his doings. He described Hon. Okafor as a legislator per excellence who in a short period as a lawmaker has sponsored and co-sponsored important bills at the Assembly.
The member representing Aniocha 2 constituency at the House of Assembly, Hon Ejike Alloy Okechukwu in his speech described Nonso Okafor as a true son of Anambra and Nnewi who has justified his mandate through the quality representation of his constituency.
The Aniocha MP went on to salute Nonso Okafor for his courage in taking the bold step and assured Ndi-Anambra that APGA is the right party to produce the next Governor.
The member representing Onitsha South at the state assembly, Hon Uzoma Innocent Eli while addressing the crowd stated that Nonso Okafor has demonstrated capacity as a lawmaker. In his words, “If you talk about experience, Nonso Okafor got it. He is the most experienced among all the aspirants because as a lawmaker who belongs to nine committees in the state assembly, he has gathered enough knowledge in the course of displaying his duty both on representation and oversight function.”
Hon. Eli described Nonso Smart as an honest, sincere, and trustworthy politician, concluding that these qualities are what Ndi-Anambra should be looking out for in their leaders.
The member representing Awka North constituency, Hon. John Nwokoye while speaking to newsmen in an interview said, “As a colleague to Nonso Okafor, I am confident that he has what it takes to govern Anambra State.”
“If Nonso Okafor is given the opportunity,” Nwokoye continued, “he will make a tremendous impact and the issues of bad governance will be a thing of the past in Anambra state.”

While making his intention known to the party executives and members, Hon. Nonso Okafor extolled the party executives for their exceptional leadership in managing the affairs of the party over the years.
He also acknowledged the good works of His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano, the executive governor of Anambra State, and the pace of work currently ongoing at Anambra International Airport.
On his ambition, Hon. Smart stated thus: “This is an idea whose time has come.” He alluded to the fact that it was the time for Ndi Anambra to experience a new leadership at Agu Awka which comes with a breath of youthfulness and agility.
He shared his VISA Economy, which is his manifesto, for Anambra State and stated that in the coming days, sector by sector details of the manifesto will be made available as he continues to tour the state and interact with party faithful.
