The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Muhammad, on Monday, had a meeting with some officials of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria on ways to end the impact of the strike in the justice sector.
But the strike commenced on a sad note following the involvement of JUSUN President, Marwan Adamu, in an auto crash.

He was said to have been absent from the meeting on account of his involvement in the auto crash, which occurred while he was traveling from Kano to attend the meeting in Abuja.
The CJN said he would not talk to the 36 governors individually about strengthening Executive Order 10 and the various court judgments, affirming financial autonomy of the judiciary because they would demand more favors from him.
The delegation of JUSUN to the meeting was led by its National Treasurer, Jimoh Musa.
The meeting was held in the office of the CJN within the Supreme Court complex, where Justice Muhammad appealed to the JUSUN members to call off the strike.
A statement from the spokesperson of the CJN, Ahurkah Isah, said he assured them that efforts would be strengthened to ensure that state governments obey Executive Order 10 and the various court judgments, affirming financial autonomy of the Judiciary.
Justice Muhammad said, “The unintended sufferers of this strike are better imagined than seen. It has spiral effects, including our children, the Federal Judiciary which is a lesser culprit.
“Ordinarily, I would say let me talk to individual 36 state governors, which amount to asking for their favors. But, some of them would ask me to do ten favors in return. This is why, as a judge, I am prohibited from asking for a favor.”
Isah stated that Musa promised the CJN that his suggestions would be tabled before the 19-member National Executive Council of JUSUN before a decision is taken.

Musa said the delegation needed to report to JUSUN’s NEC because only three of the NEC members attended the meeting with the CJN.
“We have to table the CJN’s fatherly advice before our NEC meeting and consequently get back to his lordship”, he said.
