ESPN pundit, Craig Burley, has admitted he is hoping Chelsea fail to finish in the top four, after they were one of the six Premier League clubs to sign up for the European Super League.

The Blues along with Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal all agreed to join the controversial Super League, along with six other European clubs.

But all six English teams pulled out on Tuesday night following widespread backlash.

Thomas Tuchel’s men played out a 0-0 draw with Brighton on Tuesday and climbed to fourth in the Premier League, but just six points separates them and eighth-placed Everton with six matches remaining.

“[The Brighton draw] hasn’t helped Chelsea’s Champions League hopes for next season and I’m actually quite pleased about that,” Burley said.

“The game was awful. You could argue Brighton deserved to win in the end, they created more chances. I’ll be honest with you, it was a hard watch.

“Quite frankly, I hope they don’t get in the top four – I hope they miss out. I’d rather see West Ham get in there or Everton get up there.
