A report had emerged on social media, claiming that the Governor said “we will only allow 2000 personnels from the Hausa and Fulani because we believe in equity and oneness of Nigeria.”

But in a statement by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze Secretary-General, he described the report as handiwork of mischievous elements.

He said he reached out to the Abia State Government when his attention was drawn to the said report and authoritatively gathered that Governor Ikpeazu never said such a thing.

According to him, “it is so sad that fifth columnists and enemies of Ndigbo are at it again. I reached out to the authorities of the Abia State Government over the claims that the Governor said Hausa-Fulani people will be recruited into Ebubeagu and I can tell Ndigbo authoritatively that mischievous elements bent on causing anarchy in Igbo land are behind the report.

“Governor Ikpeazu has never been involved in anti-Igbo actions and he won’t start now. He has always promoted Igbo course in his various engagements and has also worked closely with Igbo youths.

“We know that our people are aggrieved over the obvious marginalization Ndigbo are facing in the hands of the Federal Government and Governor Ikpeazu will never support or encourage such marginalization.

“We, therefore, urge our people not to leave our common enemies and begin to fight ourselves. Those behind this mischief merely want to use it and push for violence and wanton destruction of public facilities in Abia State.

“But we appeal to our people not to allow themselves to be so used. That claim on Ebubeagu is 100 percent falsehood.”

He added that the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization was working hard to restore peace in Igboland.
