Eid: Top Bauchi Scholar Holds Eid On Wednesday, Defies Sultan of Sokoto

A top Nigerian Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Usman, on Wednesday, May 13 observed Eid prayers alongside his loyal, going against the Sultan of Sokoto.

The Islamic scholar who happens to be among the leaders of the Islamic Sufi group popularly known as the Tijaniyyah in Nigeria defied the directive of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.

The Sultan of Sokoto who is the spiritual head of Muslims in the country had earlier released a directive for Muslims in the country to continue fasting on Wednesday. The renowned monarch declared Thursday, May 13, 2021, as the day of Salat and the first day of Shawwal.

However, Sheik Dahiru Bauchi and his followers defied the order as they held Eid prayers at the Bauchi residence of Sheik Bauchi on Wednesday.

Reports revealed that one of the cleric’s children, Tijjani Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi led the congregation with the cleric in attendance. A Nigeria journalist, Abdulbaki Jari, also confirmed the development with a photo shared on his verified Twitter page on Wednesday,

He tweeted: “Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi and some of his followers have observed his Eid-ul Fitr today.
