The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent call for more understanding from Nigerians as insensitive.

The ACF noted that Nigerians have already demonstrated huge understanding but the administration of President Buhari doesn’t understand the plight of the common man.

Lamenting the despair and general insecurity in the country, the National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Emmanuel Yawe submitted that ordinary Nigerians no longer feel safe in their own country.

He added that rather than call for the understanding of Nigerians, Buhari should be the one to understand that things are not right in the country.

“Nigerians demonstrated a lot of understanding when they elected the President into office in 2015 and more understanding when they re-elected him in 2019.

“What we expect from the President is for him to understand the plight of the ordinary Nigerian who feels unprotected.

“He should understand that the ordinary Nigerian and maybe his community can be mowed down as it were, kidnapped en mass and heavy ransom placed on them.

“We expect the President to understand that things are bad in terms of security in Nigeria and ordinary farmers are expected to pay bandits before they are granted access to their farms. Nigerians have never really had it this bad,” the ACF spokesman said to a Punch correspondent in Kaduna on Thursday.

The submission by ACF comes on the heels of the President’s appeal on Thursday to Nigerians to show more understanding with his government.

He stated while speaking to newsmen after observing the Eid prayer, marking the end of the month-long Ramadan fast that the federal government and law enforcement agencies are working hard to regain confidence among Nigerians.

Meanwhile, a human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) has dismissed the call for a national constitutional conference by the 17 southern governors.

Recall that 17 Southern State Governors had two days back converged on Asaba, Delta State capital, where they made some resolutions and demands from the Federal government.

They demanded a ban on open grazing in the south and urged the president to convene a national dialogue summit, restructure the country.

Other demands included devolution of power, state police and new revenue allocation formula, among others which they believed would abate the cries of secession among different groups in the country.

Speaking in Anambra State on Thursday, as a keynote speaker at the 25th Law week of the Awka branch of Nigerian Bar Association, Ozekhome described the governors’ suggestion as unnecessary.
