Gunmen Attacks: Ikpeazu Calls For A 3-Day Security Meeting

As the attacks on security formations by unknown gunmen in the Southeast continues, the Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has summoned an enlarged security meeting that include critical stakeholders in the state.

The stakeholders invited for the 3-Day Security Summit include the deputy governor of the state, Oko Chukwu, Speaker of the state house of assembly, Chinedum Orji, Secretary to Abia State Government (SSG), Barrister Chris Ezem, all members of the Abia State Security Council, executive chairmen of the seventeen (17) local government areas of the state.

Others are the state chairman and the three (3) deputy chairmen of Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, the Chairmen of Traditional Rulers Advisory Council in the seventeen (17) LGAs and retired security officers from the rank of assistant commissioner of police or its equivalent.

In a press release by the chief of staff to the governor, Prof Anthony Agbazuere, the 3-day Security Summit will hold 27 and 28 May, 2021 at the Conference Hall of Hotel Royal Damgrete in Umuahia, the state capital.

According to the release, all invitees are to contact the Director of Protocol, Government House on 08034052759 on arrival on Wednesday, 26th May, 2021 for the necessary courtesies.

“Let us come together, brainstorm, review the prevailing security situation in the country and concomitantly proffer solutions to the glory of God and benefit of all Abians,” the statement said.

Recall that the governor had last week held a security meeting involving all the state exco members to deliberate on how to tackle the rising insecurities in the state.

He Wrote:

“Following the need to constantly evaluate the security situation in our State, continue to ensure the safety of lives & property of our people & check pockets of attacks on security formations, I summoned State Exco members for a cabinet meeting in Aba on Monday where we deliberated on additional measures needed to strengthen our security architecture to forestall such further attacks on our security personnel by yet to be identified hoodlums.

“We have also decided to organize a security roundtable involving key stakeholders in the state to review the prevailing situation and further recommend measures to continuously improve security in the State.”
