Real Madrid head coach, Zinedine Zidane, has reportedly stepped down from his position as the manager of the Spanish club for the second time in his coaching career.

Although official confirmations are yet to be made by both parties, Zidane’s departure was announced in an “exclusive” tweet by popular Italian sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano on Wednesday night.

Romano disclosed that the Frenchman would leave the club “with immediate effect.”

The development is coming on the heel of Madrid La Liga title loss to rival, Atletico Madrid, on the last day of the season.

“Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane will both publish an official statement in the next hours/days to announce that they’re parting ways. Zidane is 100% leaving.

“Real Madrid are in direct contact with Allegri since March but he’s now in talks with Juventus and Inter too,” Romano said in a Tweet in the early hours of Thursday.

Zidane who ended the season trophyless following their Champions League elimination by Chelsea in the semi-finals would be leaving with one year left on his contract which is expected to expire in 2022.

Recall that the Frenchman recently denied the rumour of his departure from the Bernabeu 10 days after his side’s 1-0 win at Athletic Bilbao.

He said, “How am I going to tell my players that I am going now? It’s a lie. I focus on this season. There is a game left and we are going to give everything. I only care what happens in this finale.”

It is the first time in 11 seasons that the Madrid giants would end the season without silverware.

The Frenchman won three Champions League titles and the 2016-17 Spanish League in his first stint at the club from January 2016 to May 2018.

He returned in March 2019, replacing Santiago Solari, and won his second La Liga title in the COVID-affected 2019-20 Season.
