Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has criticized his players, including Paul Pogba, following their Europa League final defeat against Villarreal on Wednesday.

Solskjaer said his players didn’t turn up against Villarreal in Gdansk.

Villarreal defeated Man United 11-10 on penalties to win this year’s Europa League after the match ended 1-1 after 120 minutes.

Gerard Moreno gave Unai Emery’s side the lead in the first half, clipping Dani Parejo’s free-kick past David De Gea.

But Man United levelled in the second half, thanks to Edinson Cavani’s goal.

“We didn’t turn up. We didn’t play as well as we know we can do. We started alright, but they got the goal, the only shot they had on target they scored.

“We pressed, but after we scored, we couldn’t control the game and dominate as well as we wanted. That is football at times,” Solskjaer said at his post-match press conference.

Solskjaer insisted that Villarreal made it hard for his team following their Europa League final defeat against Villarreal on Wednesday night.

Solskjaer explained that Villarreal defended well against Man United, adding that the Red Devils didn’t create a big change against the LaLiga side during the encounter.

“They made it hard for us and closed the spaces. We had the majority of possession and they defended well.

“We didn’t create enough big chances,” Solskjaer was quoted by Man United’s official website as saying after the game.
