After Attack On Station, Police ASP Dies Of High Blood Pressure

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has reportedly died of High Blood Pressure (HPB) after an attack on Umutu police Station in Delta State.

Although the name of the officer was not indicated, he was said to have died in an undisclosed hospital following the invasion of the police station by armed men.

The assailants attacked the Umutu Police Station in the wee hours of Friday with intentions to raze the facility and cart away ammunition, the Delta police command had disclosed.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, DSP Edafe Bright, the incident led to two other officers’ deaths, despite a “tough fight” between the police and the bandits.

The attack was the second on police facilities in the state, and this time, Bright said operatives on duty eventually overwhelmed the attackers, leading to the death of two of them, while others were injured.

The statement read in part, “They had to take a retreat, they quickly carried their dead and ran away.

“The Command lost two police men, while one ASP died out of High Blood pressure in the hospital.

“The armed bandit who came with the intention of causing mayhem and burning down the station and carting away arm did not succeed, as they could not penetrate the station, no arm loss, the station was not burnt, normalcy has been restored.

“The Commissioner of police is assuring members of the public that every measure has been put in place to arrest those responsible for this act, and also urges members of the public to help with useful and timely information”.

The state command has lost new fewer than six police personnel within 12 days.

An armed group had on May 16 attacked Nsukwa Divisional Police Station for Aniocha South, during which three officers were reportedly killed.
