Today, May 28th, 2021, a recorded video of the Biafra Security Service, BSS, hit the internet.

In the video, you could see a person who appears to be the group commander talking to another fellow who was there to represent Nnamdi Kanu, the “commander in chief” to inspect the parade of the security service who are charged to “to fight and defend the fatherland”.

He said these men are out to “sacrifice their lives for Biafra”. He pointed out the BSS are out to fight for the emancipation of Biafra through peaceful means but would not hesitate to respond in kind when confronted with violence.

The video, covered with a mobile phone is under nine minutes.

The bulk of the video is made of songs most of which are an adulation of Biafra and Man O’ War chants. Dressed in all black with matching black/red berets, the BSS operatives,  numbering hundreds were were assembled in the main road (they indicated that traffic was keeping a lot of their colleagues from the event). The unveiling appeared to be non-confrontational as you can see vehicles driving past unharassed.

According to the person in charge of the parade, the operatives are made up of Biafra security service platoons from as far as Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta State.

We are not sure but the timing of this video might be deliberate, to coincide with the period leading to the sit-at-home ordered by the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB for May 31st. May 30th is known as Biafra Remembrance Day being the day in 1967 when Biafra was declared an independent state. (This one would be on the 31st as May 30th falls on a Sunday).

The past May 30th have all been heated as Nigerian security forces have clashed with members of the IPOB. This would be the first May 30th commemoration since Nnamdi Kanu founded Eastern Security Network and since unknown gunmen became an issue in the Southeast and the south-south.

Here is the video in full.
