The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has said it is not surprised by the choice of President Muhammadu Buhari in appointing a Northerner as Chief of Army Staff. Buhari had appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff. Yahaha will replace Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, the former Chief of Army Staff who was killed along with 10 other military officers in a plane crash in Kaduna.

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has called for the amendment of the 1999 constitution adding that its needed to create a provision for achieving a new constitution in the country.

Governor Nyesom Wike in an official visit to Akwa Ibom, donates N600 million to support the construction of the Teaching Hospital at Awa in Onna Local Government Area of the state. The construction of the state university teaching hospital since it was the foundation laying ceremony. The general hospital where the event took place is completely rehabilitated and was commissioned over two years ago.

Imo government on Thursday urged residents of the state to ignore a sit-at-home order by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on May 29 and May 30. The Commissioner for Information and Strategy of the state, Mr Declan Emelumba, said this while briefing newsmen in Owerri on Thursday.

Military personnel, attached to the 6 Battalion in Akwa Ibom State, has been apprehended by police operatives in the state, for allegedly killing Enobong Jimmy, after he offered him a free ride from Port Hacourt to Ikot Abasi in Akwa Ibom. The soldier, simply identified as Stephen was said to have attacked and killed Jimmy before they got to their destination.
