Reactions have trailed a proposal for Nigeria’s name to be changed to United African Republic.

The House of Representatives’ Special Committee on Constitution Review on Wednesday received the proposal from Adeleye Jokotoye, a tax consultant, at the South West zonal public hearing in Lagos.

According to Jokotoye, a change of name for the country would physically and psychologically reflect a new beginning.

On the choice of name, the consultant explained that Nigeria is made up of hundreds of ethnic groups that need to be united.

But his proposal appears not to go well with Nigerians, as many said renaming the country would not change anything.

“People just want security, light, good roads and a working economy! Is that too much to ask?” read one of the tweets.
