The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has claimed that Biafran troops did not fight the Nigerian military during the Biafran war.
Anaedoonline.ng reports that the Biafra war was fought from 6 July 1967 to 15 January 1970.
The war followed the declaration of a sovereign state of Biafra by then Lt. Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu.
There have been talks about the Biafra war that claimed over three million lives following recent comments by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari had in a tweet on Tuesday threatened to deal with those bent on destroying Nigeria through insurrection.
In a post on Twitter, the president wrote, “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”
Backing the president’s tweet, Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa from Bauchi State also warned that Nigeria is ready to give the south-east war if the region wants to go to war.
Reacting in a post on his Twitter page on Thursday, Nnamdi Kanu described talks of war between Nigeria and Biafra as laughable.
He wrote: “Whenever Fulani Janjaweed threaten us with war, I laugh because Fulani never fought any war with us.
“The only tribe Fulani can threaten in Nigeria is the Hausa because they conquered them through Jihad.
“The Biafran War was between Biafra & Britain(USSR, Egypt, etc) not Fulani.”
