According to Statista’s report published Mar 19, 2021, the unemployment rate in Nigeria is estimated to reach 32.5 percent in 2021 and the figure is projected to increase by 2022.

Recall that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on June expressed worry over the growing level of unemployment relating to fresh graduates in the country.

Speaking during a virtual meeting organized by Federal Government and United Nations Development Programme, he said, “Unemployment is a great problem, especially youth unemployment. Two million young people come to the job market every year.”

This is just as The National Bureau of Statistics on March 15 revealed that the unemployment rate in Nigeria increased to 33.3% from 27.1% in the second quarter of 2020.

LATEST: Ortom Knocks Buhari Over Twitter Ban

Regardless of the condemnation from Nigerians and the international organizations including the United Nations, United States, United Kingdom, and Sweden amongst others, the Nigerian Government has justified the suspension by claiming that the decision was not retaliation to the president’s deleted tweet alone.

A statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu claimed that Twitter was suspended because of misinformation and the spread of fake news on social media among other factors.
