An unidentified suspect has been arrested by security operatives for slapping the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, during a walkabout to greet voters in southern France.
According to Daily Mail, the suspect, before landing the slap, shouted: ‘Down with Macronia’ (‘A Bas La Macronie’) prompting swift action from security guards who quickly apprehended him, while Macron’s security details pulled him to safety.
Meanwhile, another individual was arrested at the heels of the incident in the village of Tain-l’Hermitage in the Drome region.

As of the time of this report, the offence of the second suspect has not been determined.
After the attack, reports revealed that Macron did not leave the vicinity of the crowd almost immediately, and appeared to be talking to someone on the other side of the barriers.
