The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of providing funds and other logistics for anti-Buhari protests held in some parts of the country on Democracy Day.

Making the allegation in a statement signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke, BMO said that it has credible information that members of the opposition party played active roles in the largely unsuccessful protests that were targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We have since confirmed the veracity of media reports on the role of some senior PDP members in mobilizing funds and other logistics for the June 12 protests in their respective States.

“Credible reports at our disposal indeed show that a PDP Governor, and a Deputy Governor in another state, provided funds for activities that qualify to be tagged insurrection against a sitting President.

“The classified information revealed that in one of the cases, some local government chairmen in a south-west State were instructed to make resources available for protesters, many of whom are PDP sympathizers, to demand the President’s resignation.

“It was therefore not surprising that we saw how a sitting governor, Seyi Makinde, literally abandoned his oath of office and joined a motley crowd of protesters in an action that the nation’s laws frown at.

“We need to remind the Governor that what he took part in was not a protest but a reasonable attempt to bring down a democratically elected government through an insurrection.

“The Governor’s action on the day might have also confirmed claims in some quarters that he is the major financier of the invidious activities of the self-styled Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Igboho, who has never hidden his PDP affiliation”, it added.

BMO also commended Nigerians across the country especially in Lagos and Abuja for shunning the call by anarchists to desecrate one of the most important days in Nigeria’s democracy.

“We have nothing but praise for well-meaning Nigerians who saw through the charade and chose to ignore the call by the organizers and their sponsors to literally take up arms against President Buhari.

“Shunning the protests was a good response, especially by residents of the nation’s commercial hub, Lagos, who only a few days ago, had the opportunity of seeing the President commission one of the legacy projects of his administration.

“We also believe that the anti-democratic elements did not properly read the mood of the people before embarking on their failed action that was thoughtlessly fixed for a day the President chose to recognize as Democracy Day, instead of May 29, in memory of a cause that many still hold dearly in their heart”.
