A former Student Union Government (SUG) Publicity Secretary Agbaraji Chilika Christopher said “Early this week, one of them (meat seller) came in to sell and the security officials were trying to know the quality of the meat they were selling so they asked them to taste the meat and the person selling decided not to taste the meat. On his part, the current Students Union Public Relations Officer, Timkere Edet Essien said, “According to our security unit, they (dry meat sellers) came in to sell meat and when they were interviewed by the security unit where they were coming from, they said they were coming from Aba.

“When they were asked further questions, they claimed to have come all the way from Aba to the school with a little quantity of meat because the quantity of meat was not much considering the distance from Aba to Owerri.

“So, they were asked to eat the meat, but they refused. So, refusing to eat their own produce raised suspicion.”

When asked if they were arrested and detained for further questioning, he said, “such matter is not for the school to handle so the school handed them over to the security agency to conduct their investigations.”

When asked about measures the school is taking to check a reoccurrence of such incidence, he said a lot has been done.

He added, “The bone of contention here is not that people that sell meat and other consumables don’t come to the campus frequently, but the refusal of those caught to eat their own product.

“We cannot differentiate from the regular seller to an intruder unless you have a modality on ground which I believe with the recent situation, plans are on ground to enable us to checkmate such incidence.
