A tanker-laden with about 45 thousand litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) Thursday crushed six students coming back from school along the NPA Expressway near Army Barracks in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The tanker also trapped an unspecified number of students.
Men of the Delta State Fire Service were seen trying to quench the fire from spreading as residents and sympathizers battled to rescue the students who were trapped.
It was learnt that the tanker which was said to be on a very high speed, somersaulted, veered off the road and crushed the students who were standing by the road after closing.
