Nnewi indigenes under the auspices of Nnewi patriot have written a petition and open letter to the Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano over his plans to sell Nkwo Nnewi Triangle to Nnewi billionaire businessman, Chief Dr. Cletus Ibeto.

It will be recalled that earlier last week, Anaedoonline.ng reported about the Imeninent plan by the government of Anambra State to sell Nkwo Nnewi Triangle to Chief Cletus Ibeto.

The petition which was signed and submitted to Anambra State Ministry of Justice, Awka, by the President of Nnewi Patriots, Mr. Augustine Ikeh (Ikedoji), and addressed to the Governor Willie Obiano is seeking to stop any attempt to sell the land where the Nnewi shopping mall is currently being built.

In the petition, the group noted that it will be a venture in futility for anybody to commit a single penny in buying the land and the property, noting that Anambra State government has completely hands-off Nkwo Nnewi Triangle and legitimately returned the land to Nnewi in a letter which was duly signed by His Excellency Chief Dr. Willie Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano titled “Hand Over of Nnewi Shopping” dated November 9th, 2016, which was received and acknowledged by His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr. Kenneth Orizu (III).

According to the group, in the letter which Governor Obiano sent to Igwe Nnewi, it was stated that Nnewi Town will raise funds within the four (4) quarters to complete the project. They remained him that despite the receipt of the letter, the Board of Trustees of Nnewi under the leadership of Late Senator Onyeabo Obi continued with the court case on the ownership of the mall.

The group warned the Governor that any attempt to sell the land which is allegedly being negotiated for N1.5bn will amount to arbitrarily washing taxpayers’ money down the drain as ex-Governor Peter Obi has already spent about four billion naira of taxpayers money on the construction of the mall.

Finally, the group through the letter informed the governor that Nzuko Ora Nnewi has no business in the sale of land in Nnewi, revealing that the traditional institution in Nnewi remains the custodian of lands in the town.
