Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, Yoruba Nation agitator, has reportedly regained his freedom.

It is understood that Igboho regained his freedom on Tuesday afternoon following his release by the government of the Benin Republic.

This was made known in a statement by the Yoruba Nation Global Directorate, signed by its Director, Princess Adeola Atayero Olamijulo in which she expressed appreciation to the government and people of Benin Republic for their intervention in the release of the human rights activist.

In the statement released by the group’s Directorate Coordinator for information, Otunba Demola Edwards said she expressed gratitude to all those whose prayers, calls, and participation facilitated the release of the activist.

She thanked all the Beninese lawyers in Cotonou who promptly stepped into the matter for their support.

Chief Adeyemo is on his way to his destination, the statement noted.

It will be recalled Igboho was said to have been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

According to The Punch, he was arrested at the Cotonou Cadjehoun Airport on Monday night, a top source familiar with the matter was quoted by the newspaper.

Later, the counsel to Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Igboho, Yomi Aliyu, revealed that his client was arrested by the International Criminal Police Organisation in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Aliyu disclosed this in a statement released hours after the Yoruba Nation agitator was arrested in Cotonou.

Igboho’s lawyer disclosed that the agitator was arrested alongside his wife, who is a German citizen.
