Former Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, on Sunday, during his visit to Nnewi revealed how he once appointed someone a commissioner even though he only met the man, a medical doctor, once.

Peter Obi who has been reputed for his prudent management of resources especially while he was the Governor of Anambra State has said that he appointed Dr. Lawrence Ikeakor as Commissioner of Health,  after he visited the then Anambra State University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, and found out that he was the only Medical Doctor on duty, while others were on strike.

The 2019 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Vice Presidential candidate, who made this revelation on Sunday, during his visit to Nnewi Anglican Diocese Hospital, Akwudo, said that although he has never met the medical doctor before his visit to that hospital, he was impressed that Dr. Lawrence refused to go on strike with his colleagues because of the lives of the patients in the hospital.

According to him, despite the opposition against Dr. Lawrence’s appointment as the Commissioner of Health for the reason that he was not a politician, he insisted that the medical doctor deserved the appointment.

Dr. Lawrence Ikeakor was appointed Anambra State Commissioner of Health in December, 2012.
