Ooni Of Ife Seeks Sunday Igboho’s Freedom, Despite Calling Him Slave

Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ooni of Ife, has sought the freedom of embattled Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Igboho, who was arrested and placed in detention at the Republic of Benin, after fleeing the arrest of Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS).

This monarch, on Thursday, July 21, 2021, inaugurated a 28-man Yoruba think-tank known as “Ooni Caucus”.

Amongst the responsibilities shouldered on the committee, are -the deliberation of the future of the Yoruba race, and issues surrounding the arrest of Igboho, who has been at the forefront of agitation for self-independence for Yoruba ethnic group.

Members of the tink-tank are -Deputy Chairman of the Oyo State traditional Council, the Olugbon of Igbon, Oba Olusola Alao; Senator Biodun Olujimi, Toyin Saraki, Segun Awolowo, Doyin Okupe, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Prince Oye Oyewumi, Muyiwa Ige, and General Olu Okunnowo.

Others include -DIG Taiwo Lakanu (retd), General Secretary, Afenifere, Mr. Sola Ebiseni; Jimi Agbaje, Sola Lawal, Debola Oluwagbayi, Dupe Adelaja, Dele Momodu, Senator Tolu Odebiyi, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, Dr. Seun Obasanjo, Makin Soyinka, Dele Adesina (SAN), AIG Tunji Alapinni (retd.), Dr. Reuben Abati, Eniola Bello, Bimbo Ashiru, Senator Tokunbo Ogunbanjo, and Dapo Adelegan and Professor Akin Osuntokun.

Anaedoonline.ng, however, understands that the monarch made this move a few months after Igboho hurled insults at the former, calling him a slave to the Fulanis.

Igboho, who flayed an arrest in Nigeria, forcefully driving Fulani herdsmen out of Oyo State over their alleged criminal activities, had criticized Ogunwusi, saying he failed to tell President Muhammadu Buhari the truth about the crisis in the state when he visited the presidential villa in Abuja.
