Today, 29th July 2021, Abba Kyari is in the news, heavily so, for his relationship with celebrity fraudster, Hushpuppi. According to Vanguard Newspaper, the deputy commissioner of police is indicted by the Department of Justice for conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
But long before today, Abba Kyari was in the news. He was the commander in charge of the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team which has an alliance with the Army and Air Force.
Abba Kyari’s mandate was simple, attack ESN camps and dislodge them. He carried out this order with brutal precision.
In February 2021, Abba Kyari and his men attacked a forest in Udah village, Orsu LGA of Imo State.
There are conflicting reports as to what transpired when the force hit the forest. Some reporters claimed that ESN fought back and forced Abba Kyari to retreat and called for military backup. The ESN vacated before their return.
Other reports claimed that the police flourished out and arrested or killed all ESN members in the camp and seized their ammunition. The police paraded suspected ESN members before the media.

IPOB accused the police of extrajudicial killings and false allegations. “It is unfortunate that DCP Abba Kyari and co are killing cult members and forcing them to answer ESN,” Emma Powerful IPOB spokesman said; “the man they are parading as ESN is not our member and can never be.”
IPOB publicist went on to say: “Two months ago the two groups of cultists fought and killed each other and burnt two members to ashes but unfortunately one of them was caught at Owerri by Abba Kyari and his group and they tagged him ESN and the unknown gunman.
“Nigerian security agencies led by DCP Abba Kyari have invaded three communities in Mbaitoli LGA in Imo State and burnt their properties worth millions of naira dollars.”
In June, reports emerged that Kyari’s men attacked a forest in Akabo, Ikediru Local Government Area of Imo State and dislodged suspected IPOB militants and reported freeing a police officer in the separatist group’s captivity.
In mid-July, Abba Kyari returned to the South East in what is, to employ euphemism, a blatant disregard of professionalism by attending Obi Cubana’s mother’s funeral.
