More details have emerged on the reconciliatory meeting between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

The two leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agreed to put their differences aside and work for the benefit of the PDP ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Anaedoonline.ng recalls Atiku, the 2019 presidential candidate of the PDP, and Wike, the Rivers State Governor were widely reported to be at loggerheads over the control structure of the party.

Specifically, Governor Wike is said to be planning to create a smooth passage for Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal to clinch the party ticket in 2023, a move that reportedly does not sit well with Atiku.

This resulted in a disagreement between Wike and the PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus who is believed to be favouring the Atiku camp against Wike.

However, the two PDP chieftains have set aside their differences and decided to work together in the interest of the party following Tuesday’s meeting in Port-Harcourt.

Giving further details of what was discussed during the meeting, Wike’s Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, quoted Atiku as saying the interest of the PDP brought him to the state.

He explained further that Atiku and Wike spent time together reconciling issues so as to ensure the PDP is ready to clinch electoral victory in 2023.

He said Nigerians were waiting eagerly for PDP to take over power at the federal level in 2023.

Atiku said: “Well, I came here to reconcile with the governor on party affairs and how we can ensure that there is unity and stability in the party.

“So, that we can take over government in 2023. I believe that Nigerians can’t wait for 2023 to come so that PDP will return.”

Atiku lamented that the state of insecurity, bad economy, unemployment, and other challenges in Nigeria is alarming and needed to be addressed

He said: “I have never seen it (insecurity) this bad. I am 70 years plus, I have never seen it this bad in terms of security challenges, in terms of economy, in terms of unemployment. This is the worst.

“Why can’t you give us time? We will come up with our policies. We will present them to Nigerians when the time comes.
