The Enugu State government, Tuesday, distanced itself from one Tochukwu Okeke, reported to be a senior special assistant (SSA) to the governor of Enugu State on security.
Okeke was said to be operating a terrorist group in the state.
Reports on social media earlier today claimed that the said Okeke was arrested by the military after it raided a bush at Akpawfu-Amagwunze in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state.

The report had claimed that, “Following the activities of the unknown gunmen in Imo State, Tochukwu Okeke, aka Owo, who doubles as the senior special assistant to the governor of Enugu State on security, seized the moment to form a terrorist group that will operate as Enugu Unknown Gunmen.
“His well-structured terrorists were armed to the teeth and heavily sponsored by some politicians who hope to find greater relevant in the crisis.”
The state commissioner for information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, in a statement however, said no such portfolio existed in the state.
He also restated the commitment of the state government towards assisting security agencies in the state for optimal performance.
Aroh said, “The attention of the Enugu State government has been drawn to the trending news story on social media, regarding one Tochukwu Okeke purported to be a senior special assistant to the governor on security. For the avoidance of doubts, we wish to state categorically that the state government has not designated any person, whosoever, as either special adviser, senior special assistant or special assistant to the governor on security.

“The state government is also very concerned about the rising security challenges faced by our dear nation, and the untiring efforts of our various security agencies in tackling these acts of criminality.”
He therefore encouraged the people of the state to support various security agencies in the state, including the provision of useful information on the activities of criminal elements, “as the state government will handsomely reward any person who provides useful information on the activities of these criminal elements terrorizing our society and interfering with the much-treasured peace in Enugu state”.
