On Monday 16th August 2021, the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma has revealed why his government demolished the Imo International Conference Centre in Owerri, the state capital.
Speaking with reporters in Owerri on Monday, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, said the state government demolished the building because it was a substandard project.
The commissioner denied the allegation made by former governor Rochas Okorocha that the state government was busy demolishing his legacy projects.
Emelumba accused the administration of Okorocha of wasting public funds on substandard projects that will put the lives of innocent citizens at risk, and placing his ego above the safety of the citizenry.

He noted that it was by the sheer grace of God that the Conference Centre did not collapse and claim innocent lives before now.
He explained that the Governor Hope Uzodinma-led administration was more interested in safeguarding the lives of the citizens of the state.

The commissioner added that the government is not about preserving the disgusting and harmful legacies of the Okorocha administration which constituted a serious threat to lives.
