There cannot be a conversation about gospel music in Nigeria and even the entire continent of Africa where Sinach’s name is not mentioned. More than just being mentioned, the name Sinach will be found around the top of the list, if not the outright top. She is one lady who made quite a stir with her sonorous voice and hit songs with lyrics that touch the core of your being.

This has earned her the spotlight when it comes to Gospel Music as she is seen as a force to be reckoned with coupled with the fact that she is a songsmith and has written a lot of songs that have garnered international recognition.
Here are five fast facts you need to know about this lady known as Sinach, professionally;

She is from Ebonyi State

Born in 1973, on the 30th day of March as Osinachi Kalu Okoro in Afikpo South, Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Sinach is the second offspring of seven children birthed by her parents. She had her primary and secondary education in Lagos State before she gained admission into the University.

She is a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, where she bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics. Instead of pursuing a career in her given field of study, she decided to harness her skill and pursue her God-given talent, which is singing, and became a musician.

Sinach is 48 years old.

She began by singing in Christ Embassy choir

Before fame, Sinach was a choir member of the Christ Embassy Church where she ministered as a worship leader.

At the young age of 19, Sinach started her musical career. This was not a surprise to her family members and friends who knew how she loves singing and always does free performances for their listening pleasure.
She had written lots of songs before she released her first studio album in 2008 which was a hit.

She became popular from the song “I Want More Of You” which was like an anthem, as it was on the lips of almost everyone at the time.

At the moment, Sinach has 12 studio albums to her name. Her twelfth album titled “Greatest Lord” was released earlier this year in February and it featured Gospel Acts both in Nigeria and Abroad.

Sinach came into the Gospel Music scene and made a break for herself in the industry and has not looked back afterward.

Her song “Way Maker”, published 2016 New Year’s eve, is the most viewed gospel music in Africa with over 181 million views at the beginning of September 2021. In fact, it is the second most viewed song in Africa, every genre included. Only Davido’s “Fall” trumps it. 

Sinach is taken

It was in 2014 that Sinach went down the aisle and said “I do” to Joseph Egbu. Egbu is a Christ Embassy pastor. The duo was married for five years before welcoming their first child in 2019, a baby girl named Rhoda. They are still together and counting more wonderful years ahead as man and wife.

She is a world-famous gospel music award winner

Sinach has won so many awards over the years for different songs from her various albums.

In 2008, one of the songs, “This Is Your Season” from her album “Chapter One” earned her an award as the Song Of The Year.

In 2016, she became the first person to have won the LIMA award for Songwriter of the Decade. That same year, she obtained the African Achievers’ Award for Global Excellence and that of Groove Awards in Kenya, as the Western Africa Artist of the Year.

As if that was not enough, she was listed as one of the Top 100 Influential Christians in Nigeria alongside her spiritual father, Chris Oyakhilome, and the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye.

She won the LIMA Song of the Year Award in 2019 from the song; Way Maker, which topped the Billboard Christian Songwriter Chart for as long as 12 weeks. It was also the most played song in churches in 2020, especially in the United States.

Even with the pandemic last year, she was still honored with two awards; Being Named Among Africa’s Most Influential Women and claiming the GMA 51st Dove Award for Song of the Year. A feat which she is the first to accomplish as an artist from Nigeria.

She is a philanthropist

Her social life is not an open book to the public, given the fact that she is a very private person. All she puts out there is her career, her love for the gospel, and God. The rest of her time, she spends with her family. But when she needs to do good, she does it and most of the time, far from the
