The Imo State Government has unsealed the banks it shut down on Monday night over alleged failure to open for business.

Recall that officials of the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) had earlier sealed all the banks located on Bank Road in Owerri, the state capital.

Recall that the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had ordered a sit-at-home every Monday in protest of the arrest and prosecution of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by the Federal Government.

It, however, later cancelled the order, but some businesses in the state have continued to observe the sit-at-home order every Monday, apparently out of apprehension.

According to officials of the state government, the banks were temporarily shut down on Monday for not having ‘building approval’.

Anaedoonline.ng gathered that banks sealed off were Access Bank, Polaris, First Bank, Eco Bank, and United Bank for Africa.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the General Manager of OCDA, Innocent Ikpamezie, said the banks are now reopened temporarily for business.

Ikpamezie said officials of the banks signed an undertaking to obtain the necessary papers from the development regulatory agency within an agreed time.
