The Presidency has accused the outlawed group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), of regularly attacking and killing security agents and innocent civilians.
In a statement signed by Presidential media, Garba Shehu on Wednesday evening, the Presidency said the group has carried out several violent attacks this year.
Shehu stated that IPOB remains a designated terrorist organisation after possessing 50,000 strong militants that have killed policemen, soldiers and civilians in the South East.

The presidential spokesman added that IPOB is attempting to hold several states in the South-East hostage with its sit-at-home orders.
The statement read in part; “IPOB is a designated terrorist organisation. It has now publicly revealed a 50,000 strong paramilitary organisation.
“It regularly murders security services and innocent civilians, with a significant uptick of violent attacks this year. And it is currently attempting to hold Nigerian states hostage with orders to stay at home under threat of terror.”
However, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has denied comparing IPOB members and Yoruba nation agitators to Boko Haram terrorists.
The speaker had in his welcome address stated that the criminals masquerading as agitators for secession are bent on destroying the country and they do not mean well for Nigerians.

While stating that such criminals are no different from Boko Haram, Gbajabiamila added that the government will not allow them to take the country down the path of destruction.
In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Lanre Lasisi, Gbajabiamila pointed out that no name was mentioned in his address.
