The meaning of the abbreviation GUO can be traced to the founder and owner of the transportation company who is named Chief Dr. Sir Godwin Ubaka Okeke. It is from the initials of his names that his nickname, GUO, which he named his company after, was gotten.

History of GUO Transport Company

We can’t really talk about the history of GUO Transport Company without first talking about the brain behind such entrepreneurial excellence.

The man behind GUO Transport Company is Chief Dr. Sir Godwin Ubaka Okeke. He is the sixth child out of eight children and he hails from Ogidi in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The beginning of his business empire began when he decided to take a step towards his financial breakthrough immediately after the war.

After the war, Godwin Ubaka Okeke (GUO) with the Peugeot 404 saloon that belongs to his parents. Due to the scarcity of cars and means of transportation after the Civil War, people around Onitsha requested that he dropped them off to Enugu, a move that saw him charge £1.0 each, which was a very high amount then.

When he got to Enugu, people who wanted to go to Onitsha also entered his Saloon and he collected the same amount of money and this was the beginning of what we now know as the GUO Transport Company, one of the oldest transportation companies in the South East.

His first experience moving passengers through Enugu and Onitsha made him resume transporting passengers frequently from Onitsha to Enugu and vice versa. He however started other businesses such as a poultry farm which he established at Adazi Ani.

In 1971, he became the official supplier of eggs to the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus and in the next year, he has already deployed a Volkswagen bus which was the only vehicle then that ply the road from Onitsha to Lagos.

The year 1975 was a remarkable one for him as he brought out two 911 trucks at a huge sum of 9,900 each for the carrying of cargo. In 1981, the GUO Transport Company was born proper as he deployed several luxury buses for movement around different routes in the country. Up till now, GUO Transport Company boasts of many buses, shuttles etc for transporting passengers.

The cost of movement to different routes differs and may increase due to recession or increase in fuel price. Due to this reason, the below listed prices may likely increase or decrease with time.
Below are fares charged by GUO to different routes:

Awka To Abuja: They charge 9,025 Naira.

Asaba To Lagos (Coker): They charge about 8,075 Naira.

Asaba To Lagos (Ajah): They charge about 8,075 Naira.

Abakaliki To Lagos (Ajah): They charge about 10,450 Naira.

Portharcourt To Lagos (Ajah): They charge 10,450 Naira.

Portharcourt To Abuja: They charge about 12,350 Naira for a trip from Portharcourt to Abuja.

Enugu To Lagos (Ajah): For a trip from Enugu to Lagos, Ajah precisely, GUO charges a fare of 10,070 Naira.

Enugu To Abuja: From Enugu to Abuja, GUO charges 9,120 Naira.

Ejigbo To Umuahia: From Ejigbo to Umuahia, they charge about 9,025 Naira.

Ghana Trip
