LATEST: When Ebube Agu Will Be Launched – South-East Governors Reveal

South-East Governors have said the regional security outfit codenamed ‘Ebube Agu‘ will be launched in all the five states of the region before the end of the year.

The chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, stated this to newsmen after the forum’s meeting in Enugu, on Tuesday.

Umahi stated that laws that will back the security outfit will also be passed in various southeast states before the end of 2021.

As part of their eight-point agenda during the meeting, Umahi disclosed that Ebube Agu was established in April as part of plans to checkmate the rising unrest in the region.

“The meeting agreed that the South-East Ebube Agu security outfit will be launched in all the southeast states and laws passed in various southeast states before the end of 2021,” the communique read.

Speaking about the November 6 Anambra governorship election, the governors resolved to show their support and also directed security agencies to ensure a peaceful election in the state.

They commended groups and clergymen for their efforts at interfacing with the youths and called for continuous dialogues to further the development of the state.

In other news, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has ordered the deployment of a new Commissioner of Police to Anambra State with immediate effect.

The IGP ordered CP Echeng Eworo Echeng to take over from CP Tony Olofu who was in charge of the state until the directive from the Police boss.

The IGP’s directive was made known to Naija News in a statement on Tuesday signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba.

According to Mba, CP Tony Olofu has now been redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The new Anambra CP, Echeng until his recent posting, was the Commissioner of Police in charge of Bayelsa State. He holds a First Degree in History from the University of Maiduguri.
