The National Union of Petroleum and Gas Workers (NUPENG) has announced the suspension of the planned strike by its affiliate members, Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD).

Anaedoonline.ng reports that the PTD had planned to embark on a nationwide strike action on Monday over the state of bad highways across the country and other issues.

The South-West Zonal Chairman of NUPENG, Tayo Aboyeji, disclosed that the strike was suspended because of the Federal Government’s intervention.

He said the PTD suspended the industrial action so that they can meet with the federal government and iron out issues at stake.

Aboyeji said: “The leadership of the union after a brief meeting with representatives of government decided to suspend the strike in the interest of the nation.

“The meeting with the government continues during the week with the assurance that the union grievances will be positively addressed.”

Recall that Aboyeji had stated that all tanker drivers would withdraw their services nationwide due to members lives and properties that have been lost as a result of bad roads.

He said the federal government had been given a notice to avert the Monday nationwide strike but he added that the present administration would not do anything until NUPENG commences strike.
