The All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed former Senate President Bukola Saraki himself may defect to the ruling party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

This is as it also described the claim by Saraki that a massive gale of defection will hit the ruling party before the 2023 elections as mere wishful thinking.

The National Secretary of APC Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John James Akpanudoedehe who made the submissions claimed Saraki is a founding member of the APC who left because of power struggles so there won’t be any surprises if he returns to the party.

Akpanudoedehe was reacting to an earlier claim by Saraki on Tuesday that some political bigwigs will be defecting from the APC to the PDP as the 2023 elections draw closer.

Anaedoonline.ng recalls the former Kwara Governor during an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday said some big wigs in the ruling All Progressive Congress are preparing to join the Peoples Democratic Party.

According to the PDP chieftain, the notable persons in the ruling party will shift ground towards the 2023 general elections and declare their allegiance to the umbrella camp.

Saraki also rubbished suggestions that he may return to the APC himself if things don’t work out for him as planned with the PDP.

But the APC scribe while reacting to the claims of the former Senate President said APC is not moved or worried by what Saraki said.

Akpanudoedehe claimed APC remains the party of choice and rather than lose members, more politicians from other parties would rather team up with the ruling party.

“As a political party, we don’t play to the gallery with opposition. We always speak the truth, especially when we are replying to a friend who can still join our party. Mind you, he (Senator Saraki) was one of the founding members of our party, who left for PDP because of power struggle.”

“I want Nigerians to wait and see if what he says will come to pass. Some politicians are forum seekers. They jump from one place to another. All I will say is that Nigerians should watch and see if his (Saraki) prophesy will come to pass or not.

“APC is solid. The speculation of the gale of defections is best described as his (Saraki) imagination” he told The Nation correspondent in Abuja yesterday.
