The southeast was arguably the most peaceful place in Nigeria until the ugly head of chaos sprouts. It’s been months and the activities of the unknown gunmen persist, raising havoc and taking the lives of innocent people. The aim of these attacks and killings is still unknown and the group behind them is still a mystery.

Out of fear, people are migrating from the affected areas, police officers and security officers are pushing for a transfer to safer regions in the country; making these communities even more vulnerable to crime.

In April 2021, we outlined all the police facilities that have been attacked by gunmen in the Southeast. We published the post. Gunmen continued to attack police stations. In trying to update that post with discovered that it was beginning to rival the old post in mass and scope. So we thought that this may serve, better, as a new post on its own.

These groups have successfully burnt down countless police stations, attacked prison yards, raided armoury, vandalized properties, released inmates, and killed almost 200 officers. We do not think that we can capture every single facility and every single life lost. But we did what we could.

Below is the updated list of Police Stations in the southeast and its environs attacked by unknown gunmen between May and October 2021.

The exchange forced them to abandon one of the Hilux and snatched a Toyota Sienna which was later abandoned after a long chase. Between the hours of 7:30 pm and 10:00 pm, the Nigerian Police Force lost seven officers to these men.
