Sunday Igboho To Be Repatriated To Nigeria Soon – DSS

The Department of State Security Services, DSS, has revealed that embattled Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho is under repatriation procedure back to the country.

The security agency disclosed this in a series of affidavits signed and presented before the High Court on Monday, November 22 in Ibadan by one of its operatives, Johnson Oluwole, Naija News understands.

Recall that Igboho has been in detention following his arrest in Cotonou in the Benin Republic while attempting to fly to Germany.

The Yoruba Nation agitator was nabbed by the operatives of the Brigade Criminelle on July 19, 2021, in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Anaedoonline.ng recalls that an attempt by the DSS to arrest Igboho in Nigeria at his Ibadan home in Oyo State capital had failed earlier.

He, however, fell into the hand of the operatives from the French-speaking West African country while escaping through the country.

Igboho’s counsel, Chief Yomi Aliyu, SAN, had filed a suit against the DSS on Igboho’s behalf at the High Court in Ibadan.

The court had then ordered the DSS to pay Igboho the sum of ₦20 billion Naira as exemplary damages.

The affidavit titled “Applicants affidavit in support of its motion on notice for stay of execution of judgement of this suit No/M/435/2021 and an injunction pending the determination of the pending appeal” partly reads, “That it is a fact that the applicant Chief Sunday Igboho has been declared a fugitive by the Nigerian Police Force sometimes in the month of June 2021.

“That it is a notorious fact that the applicant was arrested on the 19th of July 2021 and is currently in the custody of the Beninese security agents undergoing extradition procedure back to Nigeria.

“That it is fact that the applicant is under investigation by the security agents for treasonable act that is inimical to the cooperate existence of the country.

“That it is a fact that it will be inequitable for this Honorable court to refuse this application for Stay against the background that the applicant is a fugitive undergoing extradition processing in Benin Republic.”

However, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi has said Yoruba leaders need to prioritize meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari to negotiate the release of Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly called Sunday Igboho.

The embattled Sunday Igboho has been locked up in the custody of security operatives in the Benin Republic for over 120 days after his arrest in the country while trying to connect a flight to Germany.

But Oba Abdulrosheed has now called for concerted efforts from Yoruba stakeholders and leaders to meet the President and negotiate the release of Igboho, submitting that if they approach Buhari, a solution will definitely emerge.

Speaking through a statement on Sunday released through his media aide, Alli Ibraheem, the Monarch argued that Igboho is a son of Yorubaland and must not be left to his fate but has to be rescued.

He said the federal government also has to deploy diplomatic efforts in securing the release of Igboho from the Benin Republic and ensure his safe return to Nigeria.
